Day 2- Chocolate Tour and Community Service
We began Thurdsay morning, day 2 venturing through the Costa Rican rain forest, discovering winding rivers and rocky trails that were difficult to navigate (for Bukky). Shortly after we all joined in the main cabin to enjoy a chocolaty treat. Pablo let us try the chocolate in all of its 8 stages, our favorite being step 7, conching. We were able to taste the chocolate with fresh basil, mint, sea salt, chili, and green peppercorn. The most enjoyed combination for our group was the chocolate and sea salt. We all then proceeded to Pablo and Anna's house to help the community and converse with the towns people. Ana led us to the village where we were able to help the president of the village, along with his son Albert clear pathways in the center of the park because of the moss and severely overgrown weeds and grass. Garrett found a worm and decided to have a delightful snack, then shared with Gustavo from the village of Colonia Libertad. After hard labor we decided to relax with a friendly game of soccer. We also gave the children bubbles and fidget spinners. They loved using the snapchat filters on themselves and everyone around them. We returned back to our cabins to prepare for dinner, a handmade salad (ceviche) with heart of palm, potatoes, chicken with red peppers and onions, and a surprisingly tasty dessert known as flan. Dylan gladly treated himself to four plates of the dessert. Jackson bought a machete so he is our protector, lol. Bukky braided Wendy and Lana's hair. We met Adrian Pinto and his graduate students who will teach us about Atta and Acromyrmex the 2 types of Leaf Cutter Ants that we will be studying. We had class with Dr. Pinto and made our groups.

I want to commend the organizers of this laudable event. The experience gained from this trip will remain fresh in the memory of the participants forever. I can feel that it involves much, this will serve as eye opener to those "greater tomorrows" who've never left the vicinity of their parents before this trip. We are very proud of all you.
ReplyDeleteSpecial thanks to the wonderful teachers who accepted to stay with these students.
